UI
User Interface refers to the visual layout of a website and how users interact with the graphics, text, buttons and other features on a page.
UX
User Experience describes the experience users have on a website: measuring the ease with which they move the stages of a transaction.
Customer experience
A broad term that encapsulates how customers feel after working with or buying from your business.
Conversion rate
The proportion of visitors that complete the action you want them to take after viewing a particular section on your website.
F-shape or Z-shape pattern
A theory that believes users rapidly scan the page in either the shape of an F or a Z to decide if they will stay or leave.
Wireframe
A simplified outline of a web page’s architecture and its sequence of information.
A/B testing
A method of testing two different elements on a web page and determining which is more effective for UI/UX or conversion rate.
Golden ratio
A geometric ratio used in design as a visually appealing layout to enhance UI/UX.
Information hierarchy
The sequence and arrangement of elements on a web page that emphasises order of importance.
Heat maps
Models and representations of users’ focus points on a web page to identify what captures their attention the most.
Breadcrumbs
A navigation element that helps users understand the page they’re viewing and trace the page back to its parent pages.
CTA
Call to Actions are the words inside buttons or links that prompt users to perform the outcome you want. For example: the CTA ‘Buy Now’ takes the user to the checkout.
Negative space or white space
The use of space around elements on a web page to promote importance and direct navigation.
End-user
The person for whom the designer or developer is creating the interface and experience.
Pain points
The sections and points that create friction in the experience of visiting and interacting with a web page.
